Most Common Plumbing Myths Busted

December 21, 2012 by Paradigm Plumbing in Jupiter

Plumbing Myths - Riviera Beach FloridaCommon Plumbing Myths Busted

Some conventional myths in plumbing have been long formed and have been passed on from generation to generation. We have believed in these myths since long. For example, pouring lemon juice in the drain to freshen it up or running water with the garbage disposal may seem good ideas whereas actually they are not. These myths can prove do more harm than good.

  • Freshening up the garbage disposal with lemon juice:

It seems a good idea to freshen up the garbage disposal with lemon juice. This can help for the time being but in the long run, the citric acid present in the lemon extract can cause corrosion on the inside of the walls of garbage disposal. The best way is to polish the inside of the garbage disposal using ice. His is noisy but it works. Power wash the scum causing bad smell without ruining the inside of your garbage disposal.

  • In tank cleaners will keep the toilet sparkling:

In tank cleaners tend to make your job easier by reducing the hassle of scrubbing the toilet. However, they just work on the surface by bleaching the white build-up instead of removing it. Use vinegar instead as it removes the smelly build-up that can damage the flow of your toilet.

  • Running water while using garbage disposal will help waste go smoothly down the drain:

It is thought of as a good idea to leave the faucet open while using the garbage disposal. However, flowing water does not help if the blockage has already been caused. The best way is to fill one-fourth sink with water so that waste is separated and flows down the drain with ease.

  • Soap and water on your bathroom fixtures keep them clean and sparkling:

If you think that the leftover soap and water in the sink and other bathroom fixtures do no harm and keep them clean, you are thinking in the opposite direction. It causes the faucet and fixtures to corrode. Wiping the fixtures to dry them up can prevent the problem.

  • Every plumber knows everything and is experienced in solving all the plumbing problems:

Just because a plumber holds that title does not mean that he Is qualified and experienced in doing the job you require. If the person you hired does a poor job, you will have to go through the hassle of hiring someone else.
