In 80% of the cases, the clogging occurs due to the hair stuck inside. The problem can be fixed easily without using any harsh chemicals and without even having to pay a $100 plumbing bill. All you need to accomplish the job is a screwdriver, a stiff wire and a bent coat hanger. The problem usually occurs due to a thick wad of hair that sticks to the crossbar. The tricky part is to know how to remove the stopper.
How To Unclog Tub Drains
Removing a drop stopper
Take a stiff wire and bend a little hook at one end using pliers. Shove it through the clog. This will almost entirely remove the whole mess. In case if the hair are wrapped around the cross bar, use a knife to cut and then remove it.
Removing push/lock drain stopper
These stoppers lock and seal when you press them down and release when you push down a second time. Unscrewing these kinds of stoppers is a little tricky, in most of the cases, one needs to hold the stem while unscrewing the cap. With the cap off, you can sometimes fish out the hair from the crossbars. Otherwise simply remove the entire shaft by unscrewing it. You may have to adjust the screw tension on the stem when you reinstall everything to get a good seal.
