While buying a new shower head, make sure that its flow is adequate for your purpose. Changing a shower head requires the following tools and things;
- Stool or ladder
- Teflon tape
- Wrench
- Soft towel
- New shower head
First step is to read the instructions on the shower head. Some shower heads need to be assembled before fixing and others require special handling.
Step two is to turn the water off in order to protect the rest of the fixtures and walls from the sharp stream of water that comes out when the shower head is taken off.
Step three is to unscrew the existing shower head. This needs to be done with extra care. If the shower head had not been removed for decades, you may need a wrench to lose it. Put a damp towel on the shower head before unscrewing it in order to protect the finish.
Step four is to remove the dirt around the shower threads using a paper towel.
Step five is to examine the pipe threads and calculate how much tape you will need. You want to use enough tape to wrap around the threads, covering about half of the tape width as you wrap up the threads.
Last step is to install the shower head after reading the instructions. Turn the water on to check if the flow is good. Also make sure that there are no leaks and that the shower head is installed properly.
